Maybe the best thing to do would be to get rid of the damn thing and use either computer flat cable if you still can find some sold by lengths, or just any multi-wires cable, such as network, serial or even phone cable. If you shortened it too much, however, you're in trouble. If the end is dented, then cut it straight and try to insert it back in the connector. If the tracks are cut by a fissure, you can repair them with special silver based glue you can find in electronics supplies stores.
